BLOGMAS DAY 13 - CHRISTMAS GINGERBREAD MEN

A bit of a different kind of post for you today, I tried a little bit of baking! Of course I would have completely failed to make anything edible if it weren't for my mum and my boyfriend but let's not focus on that.

YOU WILL NEED:
350g plain flour
175g brown sugar
125g butter
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 free-range egg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons golden syrup
2 teaspoons ground ginger
Any icing and decorations
Various cookie cutters

STEP 1
Pour the flour, ginger, cinnamon and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

STEP 2
Add the butter and blend, then stir in the sugar.

STEP 3
Lightly beat the egg and the golden syrup together and pulse until the mixture clumps together. I had no idea what pulsing was so it was at this point that my mum stepped in. I still don't know what pulsing is. Clump it/knead it using your hands if need be.

STEP 4
Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.

STEP 5
Now the good part! Use your various cookie cutters to cut out the gingerbread shapes.

STEP 6
Cover your baking trays in greaseproof paper and place your gingerbread shapes onto the tray - make sure to leave enough space between them because they will expand.

STEP 7
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they're lightly golden brown. I, of course, overbaked them and burnt a few of them. Wouldn't be right if they turned out perfect.

STEP 8
Now you can decorate them however you choose! Some of our men turned out better than others - I picked only the best ones to take photos of.

They were so much fun to decorate! I loved making little Christmas people, I even made myself and my boyfriend. They also tasted pretty good - a little crunchy but very very yummy!

If anyone gives these a bash please tag me in your photos! I'd love to see how much better everyone elses turn out. Stick around for another Blogmas post tomorrow!
