WHAT DOES GIRL POWER MEAN TO ME?

So if you've been lurking on Twitter recently you will have seen a little account pop up that goes by the name of GRLPOWRCHAT. This account has been created by myself and several handfuls of other girls (it's quite a large group) who want to spread positivity and empower the females of the blogging community. As a feminist, this project excites me a little too much! We're going to be hosting chats and doing tons of other cool things so give the account a follow HERE. All the other lovely ladies in the community will be linked below!

So inkeeping with the girl power theme, to promote this chat and the little community, I've decided to write a little bit about what girl power means to me. I'm not shy about the fact I'm a feminist (because why should I be?!) so I totally love anything to do with empowering females and giving them the voice they deserve. I'm completely inspired by girl bosses who don't let being considered 'bossy' or 'controlling' get them down - because why should why sit back and let the males take charge of every project or company? Nu-uh honey. Female representation is important.

Just to clarify, I in no way hate men. Well, some men. But being a feminist is quite often confused with being a misandrist.

MISANDRY

noun

dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against men (i.e. the male sex).

FEMINISM

noun

the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

See! Two different things people! Feminism and girl power is about lifting females up to be at the same level as men - earning the same money and having the same rights. Misandry is about bringing men down so we can rise above them. which is something I do not support. I'm not going to lie, if you tell me you aren't a feminist, I will judge you. Why do you believe that men are better than women? Don't you care about the infinite number of child brides, acid attack victims and male rape victims? That doesn't sound like the kind of person I'd like to associate with.

ANYWAY, away from the negative aspects! This project is something I'm so excited to be working on - I hope to give feminism more of a voice and help all the women out there feel empowered.
